Four TLfC clubs vie for 2027 USOC bid

July 22, 2026

There is more on the line than just a National Championship trophy in Denton TX.

For the first time in TLfC history, the national champion will receive an automatic bid into the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

As in previous years, 32 clubs will qualify from the Open Division. 16 of those qualifying clubs will earn their way into the tournament by advancing through the qualifying rounds.

The other 16 will receive direct entry into the tournament based on performances in select competitions. TLfC is one of those select competitions and its national champion will receive one of the 16 direct entries into the 2027 USOC.

Defending champs Met Oval host South Region champs Pensacola FC at 6 pm CT on Friday night. In the late match, it'll be the West Region winners Iron Rose FC taking on Oklahoma United FC out of the Central Region. The winners will play on Sunday, July 26, at 7:15 pm CT for the National Championship and a spot in the 2027 USOC.

All matches this weekend will take place at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium on the campus of the University of North Texas. The stadium's namesake, Norma Knobel Hunt was the wife of Lamar Hunt, after whom the US Open Cup competition is named.

All matches will be streamed on The League's YouTube channel and will be free to attend for all fans.
